Mike's Race Analysis May 12, 2007

Race #1

1st - #1 Lucky Commander | 2nd - #5 End Result | 3rd - #7 Kristina Hall

COMMENTARY : The #1 LUCKY COMMANDER missed the break in her only start last year and did well to be fourth with much better, she's been training well and looks to have found a relatively soft spot for her '07 debut. The #5 END RESULT was a closing third in her final three starts of 2006 and if she can stay a little closer to the pace then she has a great chance as well. The #7 KRISTINA HALL has the benefit of a race under her belt, she'll will race on Lasix for the first time and face easy company so I expect a big improvement from her today.

Race #2

1st - #2 Alfaarimiss | 2nd - #1 Acknowledge | 3rd - #4 Jazzy Jenny

COMMENTARY : The #2 ALFAARIMISS had a couple of rough trips in her two-turn races last year which caused her to be a non-factor at the end but she showed me some ability and I'll gamble that she gets a better trip today and will race on Lasix for her '07 debut. The #1 ACKNOWLEDGE raced evenly in her first start in a race that wasn't run very quickly so I think she'll get overbet and is a vulnerable favourite. The #4 JAZZY JENNY wouldn't need to improve too much to get a big piece of the purse with these gals.

Race #3

1st - #2 Windy Breeze | 2nd - #7 Zodiacal Light | 3rd - #5 Krone

COMMENTARY : The #2 WINDY BREEZE has some nice works in preparation for her career debut and it's also encouraging to see last year's leading rider accepting the call so she could be 'live' at first asking. The #7 ZODIACAL LIGHT won a cheaper maiden race last fall but had her number taken down, she's up in class but really doesn't face an overly tough field so she has a shot as well. The #5 KRONE was a no-threat third in a face I thought she would run better considering she had a big fitness edge on her opponents, she too is on the class hike and looks to be a TRIACTA threat.

Race #4

1st - #1 Wings Of An Eagle | 2nd - #8 Cagey Fox | 3rd - #5 Mr. Bullseye

COMMENTARY : The #1 WINGS OF AN EAGLE was keeping good company when he was last at the races although that last start was almost 2 years ago. He's been going nicely in the a.m. and Alvarado has been on him for a couple of his prep works so with the easier company and the Alvarado taking the lines I think he can win this dash. The #8 CAGEY FOX is one that has the potential to win easily but also has some bad habits to go along with his talent, if he can overcome the paddock and the gate and save some energy for the race he could surprise some people. The #5 MR. BULLSEYE is the obvious pick as he drops down in class after an abbreviated '06 campaign, his worktab has been solid so he will take a lot of action at the mutuels.

Race #5

1st - #1 Sheisrough | 2nd - #9 Running Apache | 3rd - #3 Pat of Gold

COMMENTARY : The #1 SHEISROUGH looked good for the opening five furlongs of the $54,000 Sales Stake before being reeled in by the champ SUVA and lost third in deep stretch. She's in with maidens today and has drawn the rail so with a repeat performance she should win the money. The #9 RUNNING APACHE just missed at this same level after a wide journey and if she can overcome the outside post she has the best shot to beat my top pick. The #3 PAT OF GOLD is an interesting first time starter that has a nice post to go along with some dazzling works so keep an eye on her she could be 'live' in her debut.

Race #6

1st - #1 ENTRY | 2nd - #2 Power Chip | 3rd - #3 Almost Par

COMMENTARY : This particular $15,000 race has come up very weak for the level and I think the #1 ENTRY of #1 DALTON GREEN who is better going long and the #1A LOOKING AFTER BIZ should be able to control this one, they ran second and third in their seasonal debuts and really only need to duplicate those races to win today. The #2 POWER CHIP is aggressively spotted for his first start of the year after struggling as a three year old in 2006. He has been working smartly so we could be a better POWER CHIP this year. The #3 ALMOST PAR was racing erratically in his first run a couple of weeks ago so the connections opt to take the blinkers off today in hopes of getting him back to his early form of '06 which would be good enough to easily best this crew.

Race #7

1st - #6 Answer The Call | 2nd - #3 Great Prince | 3rd - #2 Newton John

COMMENTARY : The #6 ANSWER THE CALL won his only race last year at this same condition and is eligible win it one more time and judging by his morning works he looks ready for a top effort. The #3 GREAT PRINCE has been running well in Northern California and can't be overlooked and the same goes for the #2 NEWTON JOHN who is making his third start of the year and his first at his home base of Hastings. Both of his races have been solid and if he can stay close to what could be a slow pace then he has big shot to win as well.

Race #8

1st - #3 Luhuk's Dancer | 2nd - #1 Alexandersrun | 3rd - #6 Chile's Quest

COMMENTARY : The #3 LUHUK'S DANCER might be the speed of a pace-less race and if he can get tot the top then I think he'll win it, he's working well for his first race in the Ned Sams barn and is a four year old that is on the improve. The #1 ALEXANDERSRUN has also trained well for his '07 debut and if he can be a little handier away from the gate he could win as he drops into allowance company in search a much needed confidence boost. The #6 CHILE'S QUEST lost valuable position early last week and he really was never in the running but with him moving to the outside he should stay clear of trouble and might even make the lead. HAS POTENTIAL !!!

Race #9

1st - #8 Fire Boss | 2nd - #1 Caval | 3rd - #3 Shutup N Pay

COMMENTARY : There should be enough of a pace to set up the late move of the #8 FIRE BOSS who was a no-threat fifth last time as he was too far back after an unlucky beginning. I'll hope that he stays closer to the pace today and if he does then he should be tough to hold off in the stretch. The #1 CAVAL must avoid a pace duel with the #3 SHUTUP N PAY if he's to win and the latter will go in blinkers today after finishing a little more than two lengths behind the winner. The #7 PROUD REVIEW looks like the one that will round out the SUPERFECTA.
