A DAY TO REMEMBER
One of the largest crowds at Fraser Downs and Casino in recent memory flocked to B.C. Breeders Classic Day on Sunday, Nov. 11 – Remembrance Day.
Rossbridge Tristar the only favourite ($3.30) to win as Classic Day title, celebrated the biggest victory of her career in the $108,898 Breeders Stake final for three-year-old pacing fillies. With trainer/driver Dave Hudon in control, Rossridge Tristar completed a two-length victory in a career-best time of 1:56.2 for owners Bill Boden (Vancouver) and Jerry Hudon (Edmonton).
Shales Foggy ($5.30) went wire-to-wire for trainer/driver Barry Treen to win the $112,066 for three-year-old colts. Owned by Alan Eng’s Shale Stable, Shales Foggy increased his winning streak to five straight in his sophomore season for career earnings of $96,815.
Happy Larry ($44.10) trained b y Mike Glover and driven by Jim Marino for owner Larry Schmidt of Abbotsford, celebrated his first lifetime win in the $50,139 for two-year-old colts and geldings. The victory didn’t come without drama when Red Star Wildcard finished first but was disqualified when stablemate Red Star Killer was charged with causing interference earlier in the race.
Round Here ($20.30), a homebred owned by Rick Mowles’ JJJ Stables of Langley and Alan and Mark Anderson of California, turned in a 1:58 maiden-breaking effort in the $50,196 stakes lfor two-year-old fillies. Round Here is trained by Debra McCarthy and driven by Kevin Anderson.
With the four B.C. Breeders Classic races sprinkled over a 12-race card and World War 11 veterans decorating the winners to cheers, tears and salutes from the packed grandstands, Nov. 11 at Fraser Downs was, indeed, a Remembrance Day not to be forgotten.
