Race Analysis for Saturday, June 5

Analysis by Randy Goulding

RACE ONE: KATELLIENA should be ready to stretch out to her best distance following a couple of even sprints. She has good tactical speed and should get a nice trip from just off the pace. She could also be the one they are chasing if HAZEL TRICK stays in the starting gate again. RAYITO DE LUNA took a small step forward in her second start this year and figures to improve with the added distance. She hasn't shown a lot of speed in her two sprints this year but it wouldn't be surprising to see her a little closer to what figures to be a moderate pace at best. BEULAH LAND came back with a decent interim work after running an even race to start her 2010 campaign. She'll also appreciate the added yardage. HAZEL TRICK certainly fits here and could be tough to catch if she leaves there running, which is a pretty risky proposition after she refused to break in her latest.

RACE TWO: ELECTRIC ELISE has been well prepped by a trainer that can have one ready to go first time - 14 percent with first time starters over the past five years. She is a half-sister to a couple of decent turf runners including $178K earner Lemon Drop Gal but from the looks of her strong works she seems to handle dirt just fine. COATLICUE has been right there in all four of her races and she is coming off of a solid second behind her stablemate at this level May 15. She has good tactical speed and should get a nice trip from just off of what could be an honest pace. DELTA BOUQUET figures to be part of the pace and in her only start last year she ran a big race to finish second behind a horse that came right back to win a stakes race. P. S. TOUCH DOWN figures to move forward in her second start following a long layoff and at the very least should be part of any exotics ticket.

RACE THREE: SEE EYE TO EYE was an easy winner of her latest and it is hard not to like a horse that has won almost half of her starts. She is also a proven winner at the distance and with her good tactical speed she figures to get a nice trip from just off of what could be suspect speed. DESPERATE also has decent speed and hasn't missed the board in six straight races in California. She finished fifth the only time she went a route but she has a decent Tomlinson Figure for the distance and she might be able to carry her speed a little farther running on dirt the first time. She seemed to handle it well when she worked 5-furlongs here on May 30 with Alvarado aboard. LORNAMAHRA has been stakes placed twice at the distance and there is a very good chance the speed will come back to her. TAMARINDA looks like the one they'll have to catch but she has never tried a route in 26 previous races and there should be enough speed to push her early.

RACE FOUR: ARKHILL couldn't have been more impressive winning his first start back after missing all of 2009. He has had a decent interim move and if the takes the expected move forward he should be tough to handle. He is also undefeated at the distance and has only lost twice in his 10 race career. WOOMBROOM EXPRESS looks like the best speed and he ran a solid race to finish fourth to local champ Teide in the George Royal Stakes first time out this year. As usual he posted a couple of bullet works since he ran and he could take them a long way if he leaves there running from his inside post. LOWTHER STREET has been very impressive in most of his works this spring and some of the people associated with him rank him right up there with Teide. He ran with some nice horses at Saratoga. The horse that finished tenth in his second place finish last Aug. won his next start and then finished second in the Grade 2 Jerome. It is hard not to notice Perez jumps off of ARKHILL to land here but it sure looks like he wants more distance.

RACE FIVE: ELUSIVE INTENTIONS has had her fair share of chances but she has run well at the distance and she catches a field where most of them haven't gone this far. She ran well in both of her sprints this year and she figures to get a cozy trip from her inside post. FINAL PLEASURE didn't have any noticeable excuses for her very dull performance in her latest but maybe she didn't like being stuck down on the rail or it is also possible she bounced off of her decent outing in her first start this year. She easily has the best Tomlinson Figure for the distance and she came back with a very strong half-mile work May 30, so it wouldn't be surprising to see her show a lot more this time. SECRET SATIN hasn't shown much in any of her three starts but she is taking a substantial drop here and she has a full-brother that won three route races and a half-brother that was stakes placed at the distance.

RACE SIX: BOURNE A PRINCE scored a convincing win when he debuted for this price on May 9 and has had a solid interim work. He was scratched out of a race against older horses on Friday to run here and his trainer is pretty good at picking his spots with horses that broke their maiden in their last start - 24 percent over the past five years. He could have enough speed to clear early and if he does he could be gone. Alvarado abandons him to ride MACONDO who is dropping to a new low after an improved effort in his second start back. MACONDO could be rounding into form in the third start of his current form cycle and he was good enough to be stakes placed last year. BOONE'S SHADOW will certainly appreciate the easier company after running into a stakes winner in his first start this year. He hasn't run a bad race in his career and the only concern is the panicky drop after just one race this season.

RACE SEVEN: SILLY FELLA should be full of confidence following his easy win in a $50K optional race on May 8 and he showed he can sit off of other speed when he just missed in his initial start this year. When he's good, he's very good, and from the looks of his two sharp works since he ran he appears to be coming up to a big effort. DYNA STROLL looked very strong at the end of his 5-furlong move on May 30 and should have plenty of speed to run at. They might just be setting him up to go longer but the shape of the race could work in his favor. SENSE OF HUMOR scored an impressive win over some of these over a wet track in his initial start this year and just might be good enough. CHEROKEE NOTION just missed to older horses in his latest and next to Silly Fella he has the best last race Beyer Speed Figure. He is another possibility in what appears to be a wide-open event.

RACE EIGHT: WHIPSTITCH just missed in a similar race in his first start this year and should be tough to handle with a race under his belt. He also has some tactical speed and shouldn't be too far off of speed that probably won't last. QUICK FIX faded after forcing the pace in his first start this year and might be more settled with the blinkers coming off. DEVIL'S ATTIRE could be ready for a peak effort in the third start of his current form cycle which began after he missed all of 2009. The shape of the race could also work in his favor. THEGREATSUMOSKI forced a quick pace and then held on a long time in his second start this year. He could hang around long enough to pick up a slice. DIAMONDS LIL DEVIL should also be considered for the exotics after running a big race to finish second in the same race DIAMONDS LIL DEVIL exits. He drew a tough post, though.
