Race Analysis for Saturday, October 9

By Randy Goulding

RACE ONE: CANADIAN SPRINGS had to steady slightly during the early stages of her debut Sept. 18 or she probably would have finished a bit closer. She adds blinkers, gets in light and could take a big step forward in her second start. CHER'S NO ANGEL may have tipped her hand with a bullet three-furlong move Oct. 3 and could be tough to catch if she leaves there running. She is by an average debut sire - 10 percent with first time starting 2-year-olds - and none of her seven siblings to race won a race as a baby, however. She is also breaking from the rail which can be intimidating for a first time starter. SUKITORI finished in front of the top pick in her second start and is certainly eligible to improve enough to win this. Nicholls abandons her to ride CHER'S NO ANGEL, though.

RACE TWO: RECALLED may not have cared for a track that was hard to get a hold of in her latest and either of her two previous races put her right in the mix. There should be an honest pace for her to work with and plus sheds nine pounds and is reunited with Pacheco. BESPOKE got up just in time in her latest sprint and she has won at the distance so the added yardage shouldn't be an issue. Hamel abandons a very live looking THESEFOOLISHTHINGS and it wouldn't be surprising if he made the right choice. THESEFOOLISHTHINGS has good tactical speed and should be sitting just off of speed that may not last. She is coming off of an improved effort and if she can handle coming back this quickly she should be right there in what appears to be a wide-open event.

RACE THREE: FEI YAN has a clear edge over the horses that have started and unless one of the first time starters comes out running she should be tough to handle. She also came back with a sharp half-mile move following her close third at this level and could be sitting on a big effort. DINA LIGHT ran a big race to finish third and should improve with a race under her belt. She is doubling her price, however, and she is also going to have to deal with much faster fractions. FORTHELOVEOFIT drops into a maiden claiming race for the first time and she figures to move forward in her second try going around two turns. It also won't hurt that she gets in with a feather. JOEY'S JEWEL has had a couple of sharp works since she ran and could be ready for a big effort in her second try in a two-turn sprint.

RACE FOUR: CHILECITO didn't make much of an impact as the heavy chalk when she dropped to his level in her latest but she really doesn't want to sprint and could make amends with the move to a middle distance. If she can stay in touch early she should be tough to handle late. No works since she ran almost a month ago is a bit of a concern so you might want to try and beat her if she goes off as the heavy chalk again. GRANNIE GREENE is certainly playable off of her big effort in her first attempt at a middle distance in her latest. She also enough speed to take advantage of her inside post and could be dangerous if she gets away on her own. TAMAHI won the only time she went this far and she finished full of run in her latest sprint.

RACE FIVE: DUBA set an honest pace before tiring late when he stretched out for the first time and should appreciate the move back to a sprint. He might be quick enough to clear early and if he does he could be gone. YOLLA LAD is clearly the horse to beat off of his last two solid efforts at this level and distance. The only concern is the possible wide trip from his outside post. FLAMING SEVEN looked pretty sharp in his five-furlong best of the day move Sept. 23 and he is cutting his price in half. He's been off for a couple of months but a fresh horse can be a dangerous commodity this time of year. THATSA GIMME JIMMY could be ready for a peak effort in his third start this year and at the least should be considered for the exotics.

RACE SIX: TRIPULINA RIDGE figures to move forward in her second straight route and with her tactical speed she should get a nice trip from a stalking position. She is coming off of a solid effort where she couldn't catch a horse that was taking a substantial drop and also had things her own way. LADY SASHA got stuck on a dead rail when she flopped as the chalk in her latest and could rebound if she can handle coming back this quickly. KATELLIENA made a strong move into a quick pace and then couldn't hold off TICK ME OFF in the last few jumps of her latest. She could get a nice trip from just off of suspect speed and she won't mind if the track comes up wet. Either one of the Harold Barroby-trained entry of LAND OF SILVER and TICK ME OFF could get up in time. SASSY'S TREASURE made a late move after getting squeezed back a the start of her latest sprint and is worth a look at what should be a decent price.

RACE SEVEN: SUMMER SONG had to alter her running style to stay in touch with the lone speed in her win in the Delta Colleen and with an honest pace expected here she should be more comfortable settling early and making her usual strong late move. She has won all three of her races going around three turns at Hastings this year and this should set up perfectly for her. KIMMYV beat the top pick in the Emerald Downs Distaff but she is picking up six pounds off of her win and this will be the first time she has raced on a bull ring. Nonetheless, she certainly likes to win races and she will likely get first crack at speed that isn't likely going to last. WIND STORM goes for her fifth in a row and she couldn't have been more impressive in her win in her latest sprint. She won the B.C. Cup Distaff going this far but this is a much tougher group and considering her best races have been going short she looks a lot better underneath. WANDO WOMAN will appreciate the likely quick pace and could get up in time to be part of the exotics.

RACE EIGHT: SAGE GOLD easily has the best Beyer Speed Figures in the field and he is going to appreciate the much easier company with the drop into a conditional claimer for the first time. He has enough speed to clear early or he can sit just off of speed that isn't going to last. Either way he is going to be tough to beat. ORCHID'S STORM has been right there in his last two races at this level and he should be able to pick up horses that will be fading after trying to keep up with the top pick early. FISH ON FRIDAY made a strong late move to finish second at this level in his latest and a similar effort should land him in the exotics. TWOFOURTIME and NOTEMYTIME form a solid entry and should be part of any exotics ticket.
